Diamond Andrews, 19, has been in our program since she was a rising high school junior in Newark, New Jersey, which marked the start of our fellowship programs. Since then we have had fellows from 25+ schools across 4 states. Today, she is at Rutgers University studying business and now a Gem Project College Fellow. Since joining she has authored policy briefs, issue briefs, youth rallies, taught over 60+ youth at local camps, and gained hundreds of hours in service-based work. The Gem Project has supported youth at the frontlines to inform and/or address inequities for over a decade.
With your support, we can extend more opportunities like this to more youth, future fellows. Our work has not stopped since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has only grown.
AN EVIDENCE-BASED MULTI YEAR FELLOWSHIP: We are in this work for the long haul.
Your gift to our Holiday Fund: Sponsor Future Fellows can make a profound difference in the lives of youth in our community. With your support, we can provide more opportunities for leadership development, career exploration while promoting systemic social change.
A FEW IDEAS (but we encourage creativity!)
DONATE A BIRTHDAY (OR A RECENT ONE): You can donate your birthday by asking everyone who was going to buy you a gift to donate to your personal fundraiser page instead!
RUN/WALK/RIDE FOR OUR CAUSE: Run/walk/ride your own mini-marathon - it's one of the few activities we can still do outside the house OR you can do it indoors on a treadmill or a stationary bike! Ask your friends and family to agree to sponsor you for every mile; check in on your phone in a Facebook Live or a Instagram Story during your trek; wear a tracker or download an app to show your progress, and ask followers to donate their contribution to your personal fundraiser!
BREAK A RECORD & HAVE FRIENDS GIVE: Record yourself breaking a personal record doing an activity that you love and ask spectators to donate to this cause!
What is on our minds ?
YOUTH IN ACTION: The recent turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with an unsteady global economy and a wakeup call on social justice, recent events have shaken many of us to our core. Education on the importance of social justice is not optional. Over time, our students learn to look at current and historical events – even their own actions – through the lens of social justice. They spot discrimination and inequality. All this leads to better decision-making as adults.
BECOME A PART OF OUR MOVEMENT: Since its inception, The Gem Project has impacted the lives of over 2000 youth and young adults. Our programs provide youth and young adults with financial awards/scholarships, employment, and a supportive cohort community.
Your gift to our Holiday Fund: Sponsor Future Fellows can make a profound difference in the lives of youth in our community. With your support, we can provide more opportunities for leadership development, career exploration while promoting systemic social change.
